Grading System
GFORCE Grading System (IBJJF Standard)
Welcome to GFORCE. We follow an IBJJF-aligned grading system to protect the value of every belt and to ensure promotions are earned through real skill, safety, and consistency.
How Promotions Work (Simple)
- Attendance helps you become eligible for consideration.
- Eligibility is not a promotion.
- Coaches decide promotions based on readiness and performance.
- Gradings are invite-only.
IBJJF Minimum Time at Belt (Adults 16+)
These are minimum time requirements (not guarantees). Many students take longer depending on training consistency and skill development.
- White → Blue: minimum 1 year
- Blue → Purple: minimum 2 years
- Purple → Brown: minimum 1.5 years
- Brown → Black: minimum 1 year
What We Look For (What Can’t Be Automated)
BJJ promotions cannot be “automatic”. Our coaches assess:
- Fundamentals (base, posture, frames, movement)
- Escapes and defense (staying safe under pressure)
- Positional control (holding dominant positions correctly)
- Guard passing and guard retention
- Clean submissions (safe mechanics and control)
- Composure, attitude, and respect
- Ability to train safely with teammates of all levels
Attendance & Eligibility
We track attendance in our system. When you reach certain milestones, you may become eligible for grading consideration. This helps ensure promotions are based on consistent training, not random timing.
Please note: Being eligible does not mean you will be promoted immediately. It simply means you have met the minimum training consistency to be considered.
Grading Windows (Invite-Only)
We run grading windows during the year. If you are eligible and your coach believes you are ready, you will receive an invite-only grading invitation.
- If you are not invited yet, it does not mean you are failing.
- It means we are building you properly, to match the belt standard.
- Your next promotion will come when you can defend it with confidence.
Kids Promotions
Kids follow the IBJJF youth belt system. Promotions are based on:
- Consistency and effort
- Skill development and correct technique
- Confidence and maturity
- Respect, behavior, and coachability
Kids do not receive adult belts until they reach the correct age level. Our priority is long-term development, safety, and love for the sport.
Our Promise
We will always grade fairly, professionally, and respectfully. Our goal is to build athletes and good people and to make sure every belt earned at GFORCE means something.
